Question Mark Symbol FAQs

The question mark (?) is a punctuation character used to indicate a question. It is included in Unicode (U+003F) and appears in virtually all modern writing systems. Other forms like the inverted question mark ¿ are used in languages like Spanish to mark the beginning of a question.

The inverted question mark (¿) is used in Spanish at the beginning of questions, paired with a standard question mark at the end. It helps readers identify questions early in long sentences.

Most special question marks aren't on standard keyboards. The easiest way is to copy them from this page. On Windows, you can also use Alt codes (e.g., Alt+0191 for ¿). On Mac, try Option+Shift+/ for ¿.

Most modern fonts support common question marks. However, some decorative or language-specific marks might not display properly in all fonts. Test your chosen font before finalizing designs.

The double question mark (⁇) is sometimes used informally to express extreme confusion or disbelief. In programming, it might represent null coalescing in some languages.

The inverted question mark ¿ is used in Spanish and some other languages at the beginning of a question. It signals that a question is starting. In Unicode, it is U+00BF. Use it by copying it from above or using an Alt code.
